(5 Down) Staten Island is an island, separated from the rest of the state of New York by New York Bay, (a bay of the North Atlantic, fed by the Hudson River).The island is also a borough of New York City, and considered a part of Richmond County, New York. Besides several bridges connecting the island to New Jersey and New York, the famous Staten Island ferry runs between the borough and Manhattan, providing views of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. (A bay is an indentation of a shoreline larger than a cove but smaller than a gulf.)
