ACNielsen company in 1923. A market anaylst, he developed the famous
Nielsen Ratings, which determine the number of viewers and audience
demographics for various TV shows. The Nielsen Ratings are used by
networks to set advertsing rates, schedules and plan program content. For the
past three years, (2005-2007), the hit show American Idol, has garnered
the highest Nielsen ratings of the television season. Other television shows in
American history that have attained the highest Nielsen ratings in multiple
seasons include: I Love Lucy, 1953-1955, 1957; Gunsmoke,
1958-1961; The Beverly Hillbillies, 1963-1964; Bonanza,
1965-1967; Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, 1969-1970; All in the
